Fun in Bangkok
— Grand Palace & Temples
Bangkok, the vibrant capital of Thailand, is one of the world's most exotic and popular tourist destinations. Architecture and history buffs won't want to miss visiting the spectacular Grand Palace — built in 1782, the famous landmark (former home of the Thai Royal family) is one of Bangkok's "must-see" attractions. The complex features brightly colored buildings, golden spires and glittering mosaics.
Temple of the Emerald Buddha
Thailand’s most sacred sight is the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) — the historic Emerald Buddha sits in a magnificent shrine in the temple, located within the Grand Palace complex. Carved from a single block of jade, this highly revered Buddha sculpture dates back to the 14th century AD.
Temple of the Reclining Buddha
Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho) is located next door to the Grand Palace — it’s the largest and oldest wat (temple) in Bangkok.
Floating Markets
Be sure to visit Bangkok's famous bustling floating markets — the most popular is Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. See local vendors in their Thai-style wooden boats, laden with colorful fruits, vegetables, flowers and so much more as they make their way through the narrow canals, selling to tourists along the way — it's quite a sight! Open daily (mornings only). Arrive early to beat the crowds. Great for people-watching, the busy floating market is also a fantastic place to take pictures.
Bridge on the River Kwai
Enjoy a Fun Day Trip to Kanchanaburi, home to the Burma Railway Bridge over the Khwae Yai River (the original "Bridge over the River Kwai") — the bridge was made famous by the Hollywood movie "The Bridge on the River Kwai" starring Alec Guiness.
