Shopping in Nassau
Straw Market
No trip to the Bahamas would be complete without a visit to Nassau's Straw
Market. This is one of the most popular, fun and best-known shopping
areas in Nassau (and all of New Providence Island).
The giant open-air flea market and its rows of narrow stalls are
filled with over 500 local vendors hawking everything from shell
necklaces, t-shirts, straw bags and hats, to colorful sarongs, art,
wood-carvings, and a variety of Bahamian souvenirs. It's a fun place
to shop, bargain, and people-watch.
Located between Bay Street and Woodes Rodgers Walk, the market gets
very crowded, especially when the cruise ships are in port — the
earlier you get there, the better.

Duty-Free Shopping
Nassau has a variety of stores filled with duty-free items such as jewelry,
perfumes, and electronics. Its specialty shops and haute couture boutiques
feature everything from designer fashions, fine jewelry, crystal, and
Havana cigars, to casual beach attire and Bahamian souvenirs. All goods
in the Bahamas are free of sales tax, so be sure to look out for bargains.
Bahamian Conch Shells
Conch Shells (photo above) are popular gifts
to take home as souvenirs.
Fisherman sell conch shells
directly off the boat at the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal (photo
below). You can also buy them at most souvenir shops and Nassau's
Straw Market.
