Conch Specialties
Enjoy a variety of Nassau's local Bahamian cuisine. Be sure to try
one of the many delicious "conch" specialties while visiting the Bahamas.

Conch (pronounced "konk"), a mollusk (shell fish), is a Bahamian seafood favorite. The queen, or pink-lipped Conch, Strombus Gigas, can be found in warm waters of the Atlantic and the Caribbean — from Florida to Brazil.

Conch (pronounced "konk"), a mollusk (shell fish), is a Bahamian seafood favorite. The queen, or pink-lipped Conch, Strombus Gigas, can be found in warm waters of the Atlantic and the Caribbean — from Florida to Brazil. Its conch meat is firm and white, with a somewhat chewy consistency, similar to octopus.

Restaurants prepare Conch dishes in several variations, including Conch Fritters, Crack Conch, Conch Salad, Scorched Conch, Conch Chowder, Conch Stew, and Grilled Conch.

See above photo of Conch Shells — they make great gifts. Fisherman sell conch shells directly off the boat at the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal. You can also buy them at most souvenir shops and Nassau's Straw Market.
