Chairman Mao's Mausoleum

Chairman Mao Memorial Hall
Chairman Mao Memorial Hall
is located at the
south end of Tian'anmen Square in the heart of Beijing. Completed
in 1977 — the
year after Mao's death — the mausoleum has since been visited
by over 110
million people from around
the world.
Inside the Viewing Hall, Chairman Mao (founder
of the People's Republic of China) lies in state in a crystal casket.
Each morning, the
casket
is mechanically raised from a freezer for viewing during the day
and then lowered
again at night.
Be prepared to wait in line for several hours
(especially during peak season) before slowly filing past his casket.
