Getting Around London
Here are some transportation options for Getting Around London — other than walking.

The London Underground
The London Underground (referred to as "The Tube") is a quick and easy way to get around town if you don't feel like walking, or taking a taxi. Underground stations are located all over town. Try to pick up an Underground Map prior to your trip

Oyster Cards & Travel Cards
We recommend you purchase an Oyster Card (an electronic smartcard ticket — it's the easiest and most economical way to travel in London). Or get an all-day Travel Card — you can use either cards on both the Underground and Double-Decker Buses. They are cheaper than buying individual tickets, especially if you're planning on doing a lot of traveling in London. We like the Oyster Pay-as-You-Go Cards (cards are charged wtih a credit amount of your choosing).

London Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Express
You can take the London Underground (the tube) directly from Heathrow Airport (Terminal 4) into central London. It's a lot cheaper than a taxi, but it might be more of a hassle, depending on how much luggage you have. And it can get very crowded, especially during rush-hour.

Bus Tours

We highly recommend taking a London Sightseeing Tour aboard an open-topped double-decker bus. You can hop-on and hop-off at sights along the route. It's informative and fun, especially on a nice sunny day.

Book "Hop-On Hop-Off" London Double-Decker Bus Tour

London is famous for its roomy — and clean — taxis. Drivers are professional, courteous and friendly...and unlike some of the drivers in the United States, they know where they're going!

London Cable Car
London's Cable Car will be completed in time for the opening of the London 2012 Olympics on July 27, 2012. The first urban transport system of its kind in the UK, the Cable Car will span the River Thames — linking the Greenwich Peninsula in London's Southeast with the Royal Docks, located on the north bank of the Thames.

Cable Car design includes 34 separate gondola cabins, each carrying 10 passengers nearly 300 feet (90 meters) above the Thames.

The one-way Cable Car journey will take approximately five minutes. Over 2,500 passengers will be transported hourly; two million people are expected to use the cable car each year.
