Carmel's Scenic Walk / Drive

Scenic Road
Take a leisurely walk or jog along Carmel's beautiful Scenic Road,
located just off the far end of Ocean Avenue — its walking
path begins at Eighth Avenue (about a five-minute walk from the
beginning of Scenic Road).

Magnificent
Ocean Views
Scenic Road overlooks Carmel's beach and coastline and
as you
can imagine...the ocean views are absolutely breathtaking.

The windy walking path runs
approximately one mile down
Scenic Road — it's great
exercise!

Enjoy magnificent ocean views on one side and fabulous beachfront
homes on the other (photos below). Most of the houses are named — similar
to those in England.

Stairways down to Beach
Several wooden/stone stairways are discreetly situated along
the pathway— each
one leads
down
to the beach, so you can begin your walk along
Scenic Road and jog back along the beach or visa-versa.

Benches are dotted along the pathway so you can
sit and admire the view. We could have stayed there forever!

As Scenic Road curves at the end of the beach,
the walking path ends, but you can still carry on walking — or driving — and
enjoy stunning rugged coastline, Cypress trees, beach and ocean
views.
As the road winds along the bluff, you'll
see beautiful homes perched above the rocks.

Each turns brings another spectacular
view — this makes such a great drive!

It's about 1.7 miles from the beginning of Scenic
Road to the end of the road (overlooking
Carmel River State Beach).

Parking
Do what the locals do take Eighth Avenue to the beach,
where it dead ends onto Scenic Road. It's not as busy as taking Ocean Avenue
and it's much easier to find street parking, especially during weekends and peak
tourist season — although parking is limited.
