June 3 — Annual Cable Car Bell-Ringing
Contest, Union Square, S.F. This fun annual Cable Car
Bell-Ringing Competition has become a San Francisco tradition.
Cable car gripmen compete for prizes by ringing out tunes on
their cable car bells. The fun
starts at 12 noon. June 6, 13, 20, 27 — FREE Music on the

Downtown Redwood City. Come and enjoy Free Friday Night
Concerts at Redwood City's
New Courthouse Square featuring Rock & Roll, Jazz,

7-8 — Accenture Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon,
Marina Green, S.F. Every summer over one weekend, 2,000
of the world's best triathletes gather in San Francisco
for
one of the most extreme sporting events — the Accenture
Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. The event draws over 15,000 spectators.
Race starts at 7am on Sunday — and features a 1.5 mile
swim through the frigid waters from Alcatraz Island to shore,
a grueling 18-mile bike race, and a demanding 8-mile run through
the rugged trails of Golden Gate Recreation Area. Awards Ceremony
12-3pm. June
7-8 — The Great San Francisco Crystal Fair,
Fort Mason Center, S.F. Come and enjoy this magical mix of crystals,
minerals, beads, jewelry, and the healing arts. Admission $6 for

Coney Island, New York. The Mermaid Parade is the "nation's largest
art parade" and one of New York City's greatest summer events.
The parade pays homage to Coney Island's forgotten Mardi Gras which
lasted from 1903 to 1954. Thousands of mermaids, Neptunes, sea creatures
and antique cars flood Coney Island for the Mermaid Parade, which
kicks off the summer season for the area's boardwalk, amusement park
and attractions. Parade begins at W. 10th Street (by the Cyclone roller-coaster),
heads down the boardwalk to W. 16th Street and back down Surf Avenue
toward the Cyclone. Mermaid Parade starts at 2pm. June 21 — Mermaid Parade
Ball, Coney Island, New York. The Mermaid Parade is
followed by the Mermaid Parade Ball. Costumed parade participants
can get together with each other and parade spectators to listen
to live music, purchase raffle tickets, and watch burlesque
and sideshow acts performed by some of New York City's hottest
