You can't miss Sterling Vineyards —just look for the bright white building, perched 300 feet above Calistoga (between Hwy 29 and the Silverado Trail). Sterling's architecture was modeled after Mykonos (one of our favorite Greek islands). And its towers house eight ancient bells from London's historic Church of St. Dunstans-in-the-East — you can hear the bells toll during your visit.
Wait until you see the amazing panoramic views from Sterling's main outdoor Terrace — from the Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges to the vineyards in between — it's got to be one of the most stunning views of Napa Valley.
Aerial Gondola Ride
An aerial gondola (the only one of its kind in Napa Valley) carries visitors up the hill to the winery — enjoy scenic views along the way.
$25 fee includes Aerial Gondola Ride, Self-Guided Tour, Complimentary Tasting of five wines and a Souvenir Wine Glass. Under 21 fee is $10, children 3 and under free.
Self-Guided Tour & Tastings
This self-paced tour is ideal for people who want a leisurely wine-tasting experience — we highly recommend it!
Visitors begin their progressive self-guided winery tour (indoor & outdoor) with the first of five tastings (a nice touch to sip wine as you stroll). Learn about the art and science of wine-making along the way — display monitors, artifacts, scenic overlooks and elevated walkways are located throughout the winery. During Harvest Season (Sept-Oct), Sterling's outdoor Crush Pit is a must-see (best time: mornings, opening time to 1pm).
Second and third wine-tasting takes place on the Sterliing View Terrace — the panoramic valley views are breathtaking! Umbrella tables and misting fans keep visitors cool on hot sunny days — we could have stayed there for hours. Final two tastings conclude in the Main Tasting Room (we got quite a workout climbing the stairs to get there). All visitors get a souvenir Sterling Vineyards wine glass to take home. Tips for Visitors
Plan to spend at least an hour or two at the winery — more during the popular Harvest Season (depending on the weather; late Aug/mid-Sept. through mid-Oct) when crowds peak.
Wear layers, comfortable shoes, and bring along water —it can get very hot at the winery, especially during summer months.
Sterling Vineyards, one of the first "green" wineries in Napa Valley is also "kid-friendly" — juice is offered in the Main Tasting Room.
One of the first wineries in Napa Valley to become a destination location, Sterling Vineyards is a great place for VIP Wine-Tastings, Private and Club Events, Parties, Receptions, and Corporate Events.
