Fun Wineries, Winery Tours
& Wine-Tasting

Enjoy a leisurely drive along scenic Hwy 29 and visit smaller boutique wineries dotted along the route.  Follow the road from Yountville to Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena, Calistoga... and beyond. Be prepared for traffic, especially on weekends and during peak season. Fun wineries and luxurious resorts can also be found along the Silverado Trail that runs parallel to Hwy 29.

Listed below are a few of our Favorite Wineries, Tastings and Tours (in no particular order) in Calistoga, Oakville, St. Helena, Yountville, Napa (Wine Train) and off the Silverado Trail.

Calistoga

1. Castello di Amorosa Winery
(Calistoga)

Castello di Amorosa Winery
Don't miss a visit to this beautiful 13th century Tuscan Medieval Castle Winery, located on St. Helena Hwy, just south of Calistoga — you won't believe you're in Napa Valley! Enjoy Premium and Reserve Wine Tastings. Guided Castle Tours and Tastings run approx one hour and 45 minutes. Reservations are required; Tours sell out fast.

2. Chateau Montelena Winery
(Calistoga)
Chateau Montelena Winery
Chateau Montelena and it's beautiful serene Jade Lake is one of the most picturesque wineries in the Valley.

Chateau Montelena was featured in the 2008 movie "Bottle Shock" — their 1973 Chardonnay won top prize at the 1976 Paris Wine Tasting (much to the amazement of everyone, esp the French!)

"Bottle Shock: Behind the Scenes Tour"
The "Bottle Shock" Wine-Tasting Tour is a lot of FUN! See where the movie scenes were filmed, discuss fact vs fiction, learn about the actors, and hear stories from the set — while tasting the award-winning Chardonnay that put Chateau Montelena on the world map.

NOTE: We recommend that you see the "Bottle Shock" movie prior to your tour — we saw it twice ... it's a FUN movie!

3. Sterling Vineyards (Calistoga)
Sterling Vineyards
An aerial gondola (the only one of its kind in Napa Valley) carries visitors up the hill to Sterling Vineyards winery. Wait until you see the amazing panoramic views from the winery's outdoor Terrace — from the Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges to the vineyards in between — it's got to be one of the most stunning views of Napa Valley. Sterling's self-guided tours are ideal for people who want a leisurely wine-tasting experience.

4. Schramsberg (Calistoga)
Schramsberg
(Champagne Tasting)

If you've never tasted Schramsberg Champagne, now's your chance to try it! Schramsberg Champagne Tastings by appointment only, in conjunction with an Educational Cave Tour thru' their historical 120 year old caves. This is a FUN tour, especially if you love champagne. Cheers!

Oakville

5. Silver Oak Cellars
(Oakville)

Silver Oak Cellars
Silver Oak is one of our favorite Cabernet Sauvignon wines and we highly recommend taking the Guided Silver Oak Wine Tour — it's informative, educational and FUN. Groups are limited in size to give you that "personal touch."  Reservations are required for all tours.

Twice a year, the winery hosts a Silver Oak Cellars "Release Day" where you can sample and purchase classic Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignons.

6. Opus One (Oakville)
Opus One
This is a perfect stop for wine connoisseurs. Opus One was founded in 1979 by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Taste the current Opus One vintage wines in the winery's Parners' Room. Daily Tastings at 10:30am ($35 per person) by appointment only. The winery offers two wine-tasting tours — both are limited in size, so be sure to book well in advance.

7. Robert Mondavi Winery (Oakville)
Robert Mondavi Winery
Robert Mondavi Winery is one of Napa Valley's most popular wineries — expect large crowds, especially during peak tourist and harvest season. The winery offers a selection of Fun Tours and Tastings. Visit Mondavi's Permanent Art Gallery and its bi-monthly rotating art exhibits. Enjoy outdoor concerts during their annual Summer Music Festival.

St. Helena

8. V. Sattui Winery
(St. Helena)

V. Sattui Winery

Founded in 1885, the historic family-owned V. Sattui Winery occupies a massive stone building in St. Helena — it's a FUN winery to visit. Allow yourself plenty of time to take a Self-Guided Tour, enjoy Wine-Tasting, shop for souvenirs, and pick up food at their Gourmet Market and Deli (they offer a wonderful selection of delicious cheeses, salads, sandwiches and more) for an impromptu picnic lunch on their magnificent grounds.
