Tony's Coal Fired Pizza
& Slice House
Opened August 20, 2010
SF's First Coal Fired Pizza Joint
Now you can get all your favorite coal-fired New York-style Pizzas, Italian Specialties, NY Deli and Chicago Italian Beef Sandwiches "To-Go" at Tony's Coal Fired Pizza & Slice House — yes... it's the same Tony Gemignani (pictured above on right with co-owner Nancy Puglisi) of Tony's Pizza Napoletana, located next door.
Aptly named, Tony's Coal Fired Pizza is the only pizzeria with a 1,000-degree coal-fired oven (pictured below) in San Francisco... and Northern California — a typical pizza oven is only 500 degrees. The oven makes all the difference — the pizza crust just tastes better when baked at a higher temperature. We've always wanted a true NY-style pizzeria in SF (like Grimaldi's in Brooklyn — they also have a coal-fired pizza oven)... and now we have one!
Killer Coal Fired Pizzas
Tony's Coal Fired Pizzas are killer — our favorite is the thin-crust Original Tomato Pie w/Cheese and Basil (pictured below) — it's sooooo good!
Seating inside (and outside) is limited; most people come here to get "food-to-go." We've been lucky during recent visits to nab one of the two tables outside — nothing like eating pizza piping hot out of the oven... and fun people-watching too!
Tony's Coal Fired Pizza & Slice House "To-Go" spot is located at 1556 Stockton Street, directly next to Tony's popular Italian North Beach eatery — Tony's Pizza Napoletana.
