Famous S.F. Landmark
Coit Tower is one of San Francisco's most popular tourist attractions.
You can see this famous city landmark for miles — it sits
atop Telegraph Hill in the heart of San Francisco. At night,
the beacon of light is especially stunning — it
lights up the landscape of this beautiful city by the bay.
The 210-ft.
tower was built as a memorial with funds from Lillie Hitchcock
Coit — an eccentric philanthropist who loved the city and
supported its local firemen after the 1906 earthquake and fire...hence
its unique shape of a fire hose nozzle.
Diamond Jubilee Celebration
Built in 1933, Coit Tower celebrated its "75th Anniversary
Diamond Jubilee" on October 25, 2008.
Coit Tower Murals
Murals, protected as a historical treasure, can
be viewed inside the first floor of Coit Tower — the murals
depict working
life in 1930s California. There
is no charge for viewing the murals on the first floor.
Murals on the second floor are available only on Tour at 11am
on Saturday, or by special arrangement.
