S.F. Bay Area
San Francisco Attractions MH de Young Museum
Golden Gate Park
The new MH de Young Museum opened
on October 15, 2005. It houses priceless collections of American
art and art of the Native Americas, Africa,
and the Pacific.
As you can see from the picture above, the
museum's architecture is quite unique — the
interior spaces (photos below and right) are even more stunning.
Amazing sculptures and unique works of art are
visible both inside and outside the museum.
Changing / Past Exhibitions One of our favorite Past Exhibits at the de
Young Musuem featured the amazing Chihuly
Exhibit, showcasing Dale Chihuly's magnificent
glass
art works (photo below).
de Young Cafe The museum's cafe overlooks the Sculpture
Garden. Enjoy breakfast, lunch or a snack at the museum's spacious
cafe. The food — seasonal dishes created with fresh, local
ingredients — is very good.
Indoor
and outdoor seating is available. We prefer sitting outside, especially
on a nice sunny day.
de Young Cafe Hours
Open Tues-Sun 9:30am-4pm
Like the Sculpture Garden,
no museum admission fee is required to dine at the cafe.
Concourse Parking
Parking (for cars and bicycles) is available in the Concourse parking facility.
Access to the north entrance is from Fulton St. @ 10th Ave. Access to the south
entrance is at Concourse Dr. and Martin Luther King Dr. inside the park.
Open daily, year-round.
Limited parking is available on John F. Kennedy
Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
"Yves Saint Laurent" — one
of the museum's current exhibitions — features over 120 Yves
Saint Laurent haute
couture garments (including the famous Jean Paul Gaultier cone
bra worn by Madonna), accessories and sketches of Yves
Saint Laurent's works. San Francisco is the exhibit's final
destination and its only U.S. venue.
"Tutankhamun and the
Golden Age of the Pharaohs"
June 27 - March 28, 2009
"Tutankhamun and
the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" will feature over
130 works from the tomb of Tutankhamun, his royal
predecessors,
his family,
and court officials.
Tower Observation Floor
Wait til you see the views from the top of the Tower Observation Floor (photo
above and below). Each vantage point (circular view) offers something
different - Golden Gate Park,
Sculpture
Garden
and
city
skyline
views are
spectacular.
Sculpture Garden Be sure to check out the Barbro
Osher Sculpture Garden (photos below) — it's lovely. No museum
