"Yves Saint Laurent"
Saint Laurent" exhibit featured over 120 Yves Saint
Laurent haute couture garments (including the famous Jean
Paul Gaultier cone bra worn by Madonna), accessories
and sketches of Yves Saint Laurent's works. San Francisco
was the exhibit's final destination and its only U.S.
Ballenciaga and Spain
The "Balenciaga and Spain" exhibit was a fashionista's delight. The expansive exhibition featured the work of haute couture master Cristóbal Balenciaga. The exhibit ran from March 24-July 4, 2011.
"Chihuly" was one of the museum's most popular
exhibits in 2008 — and another of our all-time favorites.
The amazing Chihuly
Exhibit, showcased Dale Chihuly's magnificent glass
art works. The photo below features his beautiful "Towering

Some of our favorite Past Exhibits have included:
Post Impressionist Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay
Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne and Beyond: Post Impressionist Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay, the second of two prized collections from the Musée d’Orsay’s permanent collection of Post-Impressionist works, highlighted the work of preeminent artists including Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin,Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent van Gogh, and more! The exhibit ran from Sept. 25, 2010 to Jan. 18, 2011.
Birth of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay
The de Young is the only museum in the world to host both of the Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay exhibitions, and this particular combination of paintings will never travel again. Birth of Impressionism:
Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay ran from May 22-Sept. 6, 2010.
"Tutankhamun and the
of the Pharaohs"
The treasures of Tutankhamun returned to San Francisco
for the first time in 30 years. The special exhibit "Tutankhamun
and the Golden Age
of the Pharaohs ran from June 27, 2009-March 28, 2010.
"Warhol Live" was
fantastic — one of our favorite all-time exhibits! We've
seen several Warhol exhibits over the years, but this was by far
the most extensive — and the best yet. The exhibit
explored, for the first time, the role of music in the work and life
of Andy Warhol. Many of Warhol's famous works of
art were displayed — Elvis, Mick Jagger, Liza Minnelli,
Michael Jackson, Grace Jones... the Campbell's Soup Can and Brillo
Boxes — in addition to his album covers (including the
infamous "Sticky Fingers" Rolling Stones album),
illustrations, photographs, Polaroids... and more!
