Golden Globe Party Tips

What:
67th Golden Globe Awards 2010
Hollywood Foreign Press Association

Where:
Beverly Hilton Hotel,
Beverly Hills, CA

When:
Sunday, January 17, 2010
Telecast: 8pm (EST) on NBC

Host:
Ricky Gervais (British Comedian)

This year's Golden Globe Awards will feature British Comedian Ricky Gervais — our favorite and one of the funniest people on the planet! The Golden Globe Awards haven't had a host since 1995, so it's sure to have a lot of laughs.

Invite your friends, family, or business associates over for a fun Golden Globe Awards Party. Gather around the TV (it's especially fun if you have a big screen HDTV).

This year's Primetime Golden Globe Awards will be hosted at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

Pre-Show Fashions & Bling
Watch Pre-Show celebrity interviews and check out the latest fashions and bling. Check your local show times for pre-show listings. The Golden Globe Telecast begins at 8pm Sunday on NBC.

Golden Globe Party Invitations
Copyright © 2010 lovetoeatandtravel.com

Be creative with your invitations — use nominated Movies, Actors, TV Dramas or Comedies in your text, e.g.

"Julie & Julia" request the pleasure of your "Precious" company at our "500 Days of Summer" Golden Globes Party. Come as your favorite "Avatar" — get out of "The Office" and enjoy decadent hors d'oeuvres, yummy desserts, and all the champers you can drink... just remember "The Hangover." All the "Entourage" is invited, even those "Inglourious Basterds." See you at our "House" at "30 Rock" at "Nine" sharp. Be sure to RSVP (don't leave us "Up in the Air") — password is "The Hurt Locker"... you get the idea!

If you don't want the expense of buying printed Golden Globe invitations, you can always print your own, use Evite online invitations — or just send an "email invitation" if you know everyone's email address. Ask your guests to RSVP via email, IM or cell phone — it's perfectly acceptable.

Golden Globe Party Decorations
Go Hollywood — decorate your house with "Award Trophy Statuettes," "Director's Clapboards," customizable "Walk of Fame Stars," "Lifesize Celebrity Standup" movie legends (Marilyn Monroe, Austin Powers, Elvis and other Hollywood favorites).

Golden Globe Party Themes
Depending on how formal or casual you want your party to be, here are a few Golden Globe Party Theme suggestions:

Formal:" Black Tie" / "Favorite Movie or TV Star"
(Drama or Comedy)

Be creative and have everyone dress as their "Favorite Movie or TV Personality or Comedian" or opt for a Formal "Black-Tie"
event.

Semi-Formal:
"Black Tie,  Blue Jeans,
Red Carpet"

Host a Semi-Formal "Black Tie, Blue Jeans, Red Carpet" event and give guests the option of dressing "up or down."

Formal/Semi-Formal Menu
"Chilled Martinis, Champagne, Strawberries & Decadent Finger Foods"
Whip up a batch of chilled Martinis and keep the bubbly flowing — Champagne and Strawberries.

Fun Finger Foods
Plan a fun menu of
decadent "finger foods" and hors d'oeuvres... and fabulous desserts. Here are a few ideas:

  • Mini Blinis topped with Crème Fraiche and Caviar
  • Ahi Tuna on Wasabi Crackers
  • Smoked Salmon & Dill Canapes
  • Crab-stuffed Mushrooms
  • Sui Mai Dim Sum
  • Assorted Sushi
  • Roasted Peppers Tapenade Crostini
  • Tomato, Basil & Mozerella
  • Melon-wrapped Proscuitto
  • Mixed Olives
  • Roasted Asparagus Spears
  • Garlic Mushrooms
  • Goat Cheese Bites
  • Spanakopita Pastries
  • Fresh Berries & Whipped Cream
  • Chocolate Truffles
  • Coconut Macaroons
  • Fudge Brownies

Costco and Trader Joe's both offer a wide variety of delicious hors d'oeuvres, fun munchies, fabulous desserts, Champagnes and fine wines.

Catered Event / Entertainment
If you don't have the time — and aren't worried about a budget — hire a caterer to handle "all the details" for you.
For more elaborate parties, hire Celebrity Look-a-likes (Marilyn Monroe, Elvis) to mingle among your guests.

Casual Chic:
"Golden Globe Bash"
Keep your Golden Globes Party simple — make it a fun "Golden Globes Bash" and dress "Casual Chic."

"Golden Globe Bash" Menu
Whip up something easy for a large group (buffet style works well)
.

  • Mac 'n Cheese
  • Lamb & Rosemary Shepherd's Pie
  • Poached Salmon
  • Lasagne
  • Irish Beef Stew
  • Chicken Pot Pie
  • Chili Con Carne
  • Baked Ziti
  • Enchilada Casserole
  • Chicken Curry
  • Roasted Vegetables
  • Sweet Potato Fries
  • Vegetable Tempura
  • Portobello Mushrooms
  • Greek Salad

Serve a decadent dessert:

  • "Make-Your-Own Ice-Cream Sundae Bar"
  • Assorted Cheesecakes
  • Cream Puffs with Chocolate Sauce
  • Tiramisu
  • Chocolate Cake
  • Banana Cream Pie
  • Fruit Tarts
  • Giant Chocolate-covered Strawberries

Wine Selection & Quantity
Depending on your budget, you have several options regarding wine selection.

Tip: Allow approximately a 1/2 bottle to one bottle of wine per person for a three-hour party.

For an "upscale" Golden Globe Party (with wine aficionados), splurge on a selection of "fine" red and white wines.

For a "casual chic" Golden Globe Party, offer a variety of good mid-priced red and white wines.

For a "limited budget" Golden Globe Party, buy a case of Charles Shaw "Two-Buck Chuck" wines from Trader Joe's — at under $30, these good table wines are an excellent value. We like the Cabernets and Merlots. Or ask your guests to "BYOB" — bring a bottle of their favorite wine or whatever they'd like to drink.

Be sure to have plenty of sodas, soft drinks, bottled water and coffee on hand for non-drinkers and "designated drivers.

Casual:
"Golden Globe Pot Luck"
Better yet...host a casual "Golden Globes Pot Luck Party." Pot Lucks are a lot of fun, especially if you're on a budget.

"Golden Globe Pot Luck" Menu
Make a big batch of Popcorn and have everyone bring a dish (appetizer, salad, entree, dessert...and what they want to drink).

Some additional food ideas include: assorted Costco and Trader Joe's hors d'oeuvres:

  • Crab Cakes
  • Coconut Shrimp
  • BBQ Chicken Wings
  • Mini Quiches
  • Potato Skins
  • Assorted Cheeses, Veges, Dips & Crackers
  • Dim Sum
  • Fresh Fruit Salads
  • Beppo's Thin-Crust Pizza
  • Max's Deli food
  • In & Out Burgers
  • Hot Dogs
  • Mixed Nuts
  • Mini Brownies
  • Krispy Kreme Donuts

Whatever you do...have FUN!
