Getty Museum Art Galleries
— Permanent Art Collection
— Changing Exhibitions

Allow plenty of time to explore the Getty Museum — there's a lot to see! Admire memorable works of art featured in both current exhibitions and the museum's permanent collection. Getty Center's galleries are housed in the Museum's five exhibition pavilions:

  • East Pavilion
  • South Pavilion
  • West Pavilion
  • North Pavilion

The Museum's collections are organized from oldest in the North Pavilion to most recent in the West Pavilion.

View European paintings, drawings, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts, and 19th and 20th-century European and American photographs.

Impressionist and
Post-Impressionist Artworks
— West Pavilion
Enjoy Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works of art by Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Manet, Cézanne, Degas and Pissarro in the European Paintings (1860-1900) Room, located in The West Pavilion's Upper Level (near the Terrace Garden Cafe and The Fran and Ray Stark Sculpture Terrace).

Two of our favorite paintings include: "Irises" (in Saint-Remy) by Vincent van Gogh and "Sunrise at Sea" by Claude Monet (both pictured below):

The famous painting "Irises" (lilacs, roses, oleanders and other flowers) depicts the garden of the hospital where Vincent van Gogh spent the last months of his life in Saint Remy, France. His work was influenced by the strong outlines and unconventional coloring of Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints.

Claude Monet's "Sunrise at Sea" portrays the port of Le Havre on the northern coast of France. This was one of his first Impressionist works (along with his famous "Impression: Sunrise" on display at the Marmottan Museum in Paris).
