Wait until you see Getty Center's magnificent Central Garden and its stunning landscaping. Designed by Robert Irwin, he refers to the garden as a sculpture in the form of a garden that aspires to be called art.
The 134,000-sq-ft design features a natural ravine, over 500 varieties of plants and flowers, and a tree-lined walkway. Flanked on either side by buildings, the Central Garden has a running stream as its focus.
The Gardens and grounds are filled with everything from Sycamore Trees, Pepper Trees (similar to Weeping Willows), and Pomegranate Trees, to Birds of Paradise, and beautiful arbors of Bougainvillea. At the bottom of the Central Garden sits a spectacular maze of red, pink and white Azaleas, surrounded by a reflecting pool and a series of specialty gardens.
If you like cactus (we love 'em) you're in for a treat. Don't miss a visit to the Cactus Garden at the South Promontory, overlooking the city, mountains and ocean — on a clear day, the views are absolutely spectacular.
