Getty Center & Museum
The Getty Center is without doubt one of of Los Angeles' most beautiful and popular
cultural attractions. Opened in December 1997, it draws over one million visitors annually from the around the world. Visually, it's one of the most stunning museums we've ever seen!
The light and airy Getty is the first western "open" museum — its unique, modern architecture and magnificent gardens (including a Cactus Garden overlooking the city, mountains and ocean) are truly a sight to behold!
See memorable works of art — the
Getty Center houses European paintings (our favorites are the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists), drawings, sculptures, illuminated
manuscripts, decorative arts, and European and American photographs.
There's so much to see at the Getty Center — we highly recommend that you take one of their Complimentary Tours:
- Architecture Tours
- Garden Tours

- Focus Tours
- Masterpiece of the Week Talks
Getty Center sits on a hilltop in the Santa Monica Mountains, just off the San Diego Freeway, about 12 miles northwest of downtown L.A. It has a completely different feel to its older sister museum, Getty Villa, which sits in a narrow canyon on the Pacific Coast Highway
in Malibu (the latter featuring Roman-inspired architecture, magnificent gardens and a collection of of Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities).
Visitors access Getty Center via electric cable-driven trams from the parking garage, located just below the museum.
While walking through the Getty complex, at every turn there's a great photo opportunity. See panoramic views of the city, mountains and
Enjoy indoor and outdoor dining, tranquil gardens to relax and stroll...
and fun activities to give you new perspectives on art and its meanings.
