Malibu and Malibu Beach Duke's Malibu ****
Cuisine: Seafood
Description & Atmosphere What a spectacular setting! Duke's Malibu is located at the water's edge in Malibu — on the Pacific Coast Hwy, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It's our favorite Malibu beach-front restaurant. Sure wish they had a Duke's in San Francisco — we'd go there every week!
The casual-style restaurant, bar area and outdoor deck all offer stunning oceanfront views (watch short video above), great food and fantastic service. What better place to come for a romantic drink and dinner, especially when the sun is setting.
Named after Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, (one of Hawaii's most famous surfers and an Olympic Gold-Medalist swimmer — he was the first person to be inducted into both the Swimming and Surfing Halls of Fame), Duke's is popular with tourists and locals alike — we recently stopped by for lunch after visiting the nearby Getty Villa.
Food
Duke's offers an extensive menu selection of delicious appetizers, soups & salads, seasonal fresh fish, sandwiches, burgers, steaks & prime rib, and popular local favorites.
Crab & Macnut Wontons (Crabmeat, cream cheese, Macadamia nuts, mustard plum sauce) are soooooo good! The plum sauce is addicting — we'll definitely be back for more of these scrumptious appetizers.
Shrimp & Crab Louie, Duke's version of a coastal favorite (egg, tomato, avocado, olive and lots of shellfish), is light and delicious.
Parmesan & Herb Crusted Opa, a house favorite (sautéed with panko, macadamia nuts, lemon and capers) — OMG! We also ordered Sweet Potato Fries and they didn't disappoint — tasty and crisped to perfection.
Kimo's Original Hula Pie (Macadamia Nut Ice-Cream served over Oreo Cookie Crust, topped with Hot Fudge and Whipped Cream) is a "must-try" especially if you're celebrating a special occasion. It's big enough to share, so ask for extra spoons. Other dessert standouts include Duke's Key Lime Pie, Pineapple Upside Down Cake and Peanut Butter Pie.
Private Party Room
Duke's private beach-front Moana Room offers guests fabulous unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean — it's a wonderful setting for a private party or special event for groups of 40-250 people. The room also has a separate entrance.
Barefoot Bar
Stop by Duke's Barefoot Bar for drinks and a quick bite — menu includes Baja Fish Tacos, Island Fish & Chips, Parmesan and Herb-Crusted Fresh Fish, Shrimp & Crab Louie, Burgers and Sandwiches. Enjoy tropical Beach Drinks, Sparkling Wines & Champagne, and fine Red & White Wines.
