When to Visit Maui

Hana Coast — "Road to Hana"
If you have an extra day or two, take a leisurely drive along the scenic "Road to Hana" — the narrow winding highway runs along the North Shore of Maui, through its mountains and valleys. Spectacular waterfalls and incredible views of Hana's picturesque shoreline and tropical rainforests can be seen along the way.

Allow at least three hours for the 52-mile drive from Kahului to the quaint little town of Hana. The trip can be made in one day, however, we recommend an overnight stay in Hana — it was one of the highlights of our first trip to Maui.

Hawaiian Islands Beach

Whale-Watching
According to the Pacific Whale Foundation, scientists estimate that there are between 17,000 and 20,000 humpback whales in the North Pacific population — and about 60% of those arrive in Hawaii (generally after a two-month, 3,500-mile swim from their Alaskan feeding grounds, beginning in mid-October).

The whales come to Hawaii to mate, give birth and then care for their calves. It is speculated that migrating humpback whales are attracted to the water around Maui, Kahoolawe, Lanai and Molokai because it is relatively shallow and sheltered from high winds.

Whale-Watching Tours usually begin early Dec-thru' mid-May.
