During the summer — May thru' Labor Day — the Central Park Conservancy hosts a number of Free Concerts and musical events.

The New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera each give two FREE performances here every summer.

Some of the city's biggest outdoor events, including concerts by Elton John, Diana Ross, Simon and Garfunkel, and Luciano Pavarotti have taken place at the Great Lawn. At the northeast corner, there are four half-courts for basketball and two volleyball courts, and an 1/8 mile track surrounding the courts.

The Great Lawn is located
Mid-Park from 79th to 85th Streets

Open mid-April - mid-November

Volleyball in Central Park
Central Park's Sand Volleyball Court is a favorite of Olympic Gold Medal Beach Volleyball champion, Kerri Walsh. Whether you're looking for pickup volleyball games or just want to play with friends, you can choose between beach and lawn volleyball. Pickup volleyball is on a first-come, first-serve basis. You must supply your own net and volleyball. There are two locations — one sand court east of Sheep Meadow (mid-Park at 66th St) and three courts near the Great Lawn (mid-Park at 86th St, behind the Central Park precinct).
