Inauguration Ceremony, Parade
and Celebrations

Inauguration Ceremony
The Presidential swearing-in ceremony takes place on the West Front of the State Capitol in Washington DC in January, every four years. A giant podium with 1,600 seats accommodates former U.S. Presidents, the President-elect and the Vice President-elect families and members of the House, Senate, Supreme Court, Joint Chiefs of Staff, diplomatic corps and new cabinet.

Tickets are usually available for people to watch the ceremony from the Capitol's west lawn, in addition to tickets for seats below the podium; the remainder of the tickets were for standing-room sections.

Inaugural Parade
The Inaugural Parade rubns about 1 1/2 miles down Pennsylvania Avenue from Capitol Hill, north on 15th Street, and west again on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. Big crowds are usually formed by 7am along the parade route. Note: No lawn chairs, coffee thermoses or picnic baskets are allowed onto the Capitol grounds or along the parade route. The Metrorail system opens at 4am.

Inaugural Balls & Star-Studded Events
Washington DC comes alive with Inaugural Balls and fun festivities. Celebrities attending Inaugural Balls and festivities have included Oprah, Halle Berry, Sharon Stone, Samuel Jackson, Anne Hathaway, Susan Sarandon, Marcia Cross, Tim Robbins, Seal, John Legend, Adrian Grenier, Ashley Judd, Jane Krakowski, Rachael Leigh Cook, Blair Underwood, Spike Lee, Ron Howard, Beyonce, Denzel Washington, Stevie Wonder, Garth Brooks, Bono, Queen Latifah, John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen... to name a few.
