Olympic Games History

History of London's Olympic Games
London has hosted the Olympic Games three times — in 1908, 1948 and 2012 — the most of any city. Rome was originally slated to host the 1908 Olympics, however, after the 1906 eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, the games were relocated to London.

History was made during London's 2012 Olympics. Super Saturday brought 6 Golds to Great Britain — more than had been won in 15 entire past Olympics, three of them in the main stadium in just 46 minutes on the greatest night of athletics in British sporting history! It was the best medal count for GB at any Olympics since 1908 — and 18 more than won in Beijing in 2008. Team GB walked away from London's 2012 Summer Olympic Games with a record-breaking 29 Golds!
