Loma Prieta, south of San Francisco — the first major event to occur along the San Andreas fault zone since the 1906 earthquake.

The force of the earthquake was felt throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond — some say as far as Oregon.

The Loma Prieta earthquake occurred during the 1989 World Series— San Francisco Giants vs. the Oakland Athletics.


EarthQuake Exhibit
"EarthQuake: Life on a Dynamic Planet" exhibit opened at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco on May 26, 2012 and will run thru' 2014.

Experience the '89 Loma Prieta quake (and 30 seconds of the 90-second big 1906 San Francisco quake) inside the exhibit's earthquake simulator (it brought back eerie memories for us of that infamous day!)
