April 18, 2006
marks the 100-year anniversary of The Great San Francisco Earthquake
and Fire. Today,
it still ranks as one of the most significant earthquakes
of all time.

This was the strongest northern California earthquake in in recent
memory

The MGM musical features the famous SF song "San
Francisco," which became one of two official city
songs on May 15, 1984.
The movie is shown every April 18th at the Balboa
Theater in San Francisco in commemoration of the 1906 San Francisco
Earthquake
and Fire.

Lotta's Fountain —
San Francisco's
Oldest Surviving Monument
During the 1906 Earthquake,
Lotta's Fountain became a central meeting
place for families and survivors. The San Francisco landmark is
located on the corner
of Kearny and Market streets.
