Cuisine: Regional Mexican
Description & Atmosphere
Colibri, a delightful Mexican Bistro located just off Union
Square, is the perfect locale for lunch or dinner, especially if
you're catching a show at the Curran Theater — located directly
across the street.
Our first visit to Colibri was during an unusually stormy evening
when we sought refuge there for drinks and dinner, before going on
to the theater. Since that night, we've enjoyed many more delightful
meals at this charming bistro.

Food
Served in authentic tapas style, Colibri's Regional Mexican
a la carte cuisine is meant to be shared — it's a great way
to taste a little bit of everything.

Warm, handmade Corn Tortillas, served with three Dipping Salsas accompany
every meal — bet ya can't eat just one! And they're so good
with a Margarita...or two!

Guacamole is made fresh at your table — just tell
the servers how spicy you want it, and they'll prepare it to your
liking. It's perfect as a starter or as a side dish.

Tasty appetizers are perfect for sharing — we like the
Chicken Tamales with Mole Sauce and the Mini Chicken Tostados.
Chocoholics will like the Mole Poblano (blend of spices,
chiles, nuts and chocolate made into a rich, flavorful sauce, in
traditional Puebla style, served over chicken).

Another Colibri menu favorite is the Carnitas (Michoacan-style
marinated tender chunks of pork, served with guajillo and arbol chiles
salsa).

And if you want to try something different with your meal, check
out the "cactus" vegetable side dish — flavorful Nopales
Asados (grilled
young cactus leaves marinated in fresh herbs, roasted garlic and
olive
oil, mixed
with
rajas, mushrooms and oregano).

Fun Event Location
Colibrí's back-room dining area,
located just off the open kitchen (photo below), is ideal for larger
groups or semi-private parties — it's a fun setting for entertaining
VIP clients or hosting a special event.

The upscale Mexican-style cantina features several
dining areas with cozy booth and table seating in an intimate
warm setting — ideal for a romantic meal or getting together
with family and friends.

We like sitting at the high tables just inside
the main entrance, near the bar area (photo below)—it's fun for people-watching.

Colibrí's Bar
— Fab Margaritas
All of Colibri's hand-shaken Margaritas are made from 100% Agave and
served "on-the-rocks."
Pop by for a pre-theater (or after-theater) drink.
Tequila Tastings are offered here twice a month.

Live Music
Live music Mondays.

More Menu Standouts
Other menu standouts include: Pescado del Dia — pan-seared "Catch
of the Day" served over green garlic chorizo sauce with sauteed
green beans and chayote squash, topped with huitlacoche — mmm...mmm!
Chamorro de Cordero — Lamb
Shank marinated in a paste of Muscat wine and spices, wrapped in
banana leaves and steamed to
perfection. Perfecto indeed!
Filet Migon with ancho chile stuffed
with seasoned goat cheese, over mashed potatoes with sauteed spinach
and chipotle chile
sauce — tender and tasty...and surprisingly light!
Fabulous Desserts
Be sure to save room for dessert. Colibri's Pastel de Chocolate (Warm
Mexican Chocolate Cake) is "to-die-for!"
