Home to over 400 exotic African mammals (we saw more giraffes here than we've ever seen in one place before) and birds from around the world, it's hard to believe Safari West is only 75 miles north (about a 90-minute drive) from the bustling city of San Francisco.

During your visit, expect to see everything from Giraffes, Zebras, Cheetahs, Lemurs, Antelopes (including Bongos), White Rhinos and Watusi Cattle to Desert Turtles, Monkeys, Flamingos, Swans, Macaws, East African Crown Cranes (pictured right)... and a whole lot more!

Don't Forget
— What To Bring With You
Wear comfortable, casual clothing. Bring layers. Don't forget a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and bottled water — temperatures can be high during summer months. Be sure to bring a camera, video-camera and binoculars.

Also, if you're planning on staying overnight, bring a flashlight if you have one — more are available at Safari West if needed. It's helpful in finding your way back to your tent at night.

Be prepared to take a break from talking, browsing and tweeting on your cell phone — we managed to get a weak signal in the Elephant Room at the Savannah Cafe :)
