Cultural Historical Landmark
Santa Barbara Mission is one of California's most beautiful missions. It sits on 10 acres of lush landscaped gardens. On a sunny day with a blue sky as its backdrop, the historic mission is quite stunning.

The 10th of the California missions, Santa Barbara Mission was founded by the Spanish Franciscans on the Feast of St. Barbara, on December 4, 1786.

Today, the Santa Barbara cultural and historical landmark is one of the city's most popular attractions, drawing visitors from around the world.



Santa Barbara Mission is home to Franciscan friars, a Retreat Center, Church with active Parish, Cemetery and Mausoleum and a Museum and Gift Shop

Father Junipera Serra
A bronze sculpture of Father Junipero Serra stands at the entrance to the Santa Barbara Mission.

Father Junipero Serra founded California's first mission in 1769. When he died in 1784, he had established nine California missions and baptized 6,000 Indians.


Self-Guided Tours
Self-guided tours begin in the gift shop, where tour tickets can be purchased. Visitor's museum guides are available in 8 different languages.
