Sears Tower is the tallest building in North America and the third tallest building in the world - Chicago, Illinois

Sears Tower / Willis Tower
— Tallest Building in North America
Sears Tower — now known as Willis Tower — is one of Chicago's most recognizable landmarks. The iconic structure stands at 1,450 feet and 110 stories high, making it the tallest building in North America — and the third tallest in the world.

Taipei 101 holds the title to the tallest building in the world, surpassing Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (the second tallest in the world). However, upon completion in September 2009, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai will be the tallest building in the world. At this time, the Sears Tower still holds the record for "tallest to the tips of the antennas!"

Must-See Attraction
Sears Tower is a "must-see" attraction when visiting Chicago — the views from the Skydeck, atop this magnificent skyscraper are absolutely breathtaking.

Renamed Willis Tower
On Thursday, July 16, 2009, Sears Tower was renamed Willis Tower — after Willis Group Holdings, a London-based insurance broker moves its offices into the building and gets exclusive naming rights.

Chicago Skyline - Chicago, Illinois

The Skydeck is located on the 103rd floor of Sears Tower. It's one of the city's most popular attractions — drawing over a million tourists annually. It's THE place to go for the most amazing views of Chicago... and states beyond — on a clear day, you can see 40-50 miles!

Skydeck Ledge
Just when you thought the views couldn't get any better — "The Ledge" (four fully-enclosed glass-bottom box balconies) opened at the Skydeck on July 2, 2009.

Now visitors can enjoy unobstructed views of Chicago — 1,353 feet straight down! If you have a thing for heights, this may not be for you. So far, kids seem to love it!

The four retractable glass Ledge balconies extend 4.3 feet out from the side of the building — suspended 1,353 feet in the air from the 103rd floor Skydeck. Each balcony box is made up of three layers of 1 1/2 inch-thick glass, designed to hold about five tons.

Spectacular Sunsets
Sunsets are spectacular. Plan to arrive at the Skydeck at least 30-35 minutes prior to sunset to enjoy daytime and sunset views. Twilight hours are amazing too — watch as the skyline lights up before your eyes.
