Pike Place Market / Post Alley and Victor Steinbrueck Park

After visiting Pike Place Market,
be sure to wander around the brick-lined
streets and surrounding areas — Pike Place, Post Alley and
Victor Steinbrueck Park.
 This fun
area stretches beyond "Pike Place Market" from First
Avenue and Pike Street,
along
Pike Place— encompassing
all
the little specialty shops, restaurants,
arts & crafts
vendors, street performers and musicians — between Union
and Virginia Streets
to Western
Avenue.
Post Alley
— Edible Art Peppers
Check out Choice Produce & Pepper, located on the corner
of Post Alley and Pike Place — you can't miss it...just look
for the colorful "hanging peppers" out
front.
These unique "edible works of art " are all handmade by
the owners and his family — the peppers make a great gift,
especially if you're looking for something special from Seattle.
FYI...the pieces last five years as a decoration and two years as
a spice.

Victor
Steinbrueck Park
Victor Steinbrueck Park is located at the northern end of Pike
Place Market — at
the end of Virginia St. on Western Avenue. It's a short easy walk from
the market.

The small grassy park is named after Steinbrueck — an
architect, author, and artist...and Seattle's best-known advocate
of historic preservation. He was
best known for his design of the Space Needle in 1960. After his
death in 1985, Pike Place Park was named Victor Steinbrueck
Park
in honor of his memory.
During the spring and summer,
it's a fun place to stroll, enjoy a picnic lunch, and people-watch,
after visiting Pike Place Market
— it draws an interesting mix of
people.
The park offers water (Elliott Bay) and mountain
(Olympic Mountains) views. If you hear the sound
of traffic, that's because the park
also overlooks the Alaskan Way Viaduct — an elevated section of Washington
State Route 99 that runs along the Elliott Bay waterfront in Seattle's Industrial
District and downtown. It
reminded us a little of the old Embarcadero Freeway
(overlooking San
Francisco Bay), prior to the Loma Prieta Earthquake.
