Inauguration Kick-Off Celebration
President-elect Barack Obama and his family will travel
by train from Philadelphia, making a stop in Baltimore (two historic
American cities), picking up Vice President-elect
Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware along the way. Thousands
of people are expected
to line the route to join in the celebration and cheer on the
soon-to-be President, First Lady and VP.
Inaugural Theme
— "Renewing America's Promise"
The theme of this historic 2009 Inaugural Celebration is "Renewing
America's Promise."
Inauguration Ceremony
Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony will take place on the
West Front of the State Capitol in Washington DC on Tuesday, January
20, 2009 at 12 noon (EST). A giant podium with 1,600 seats will accommodate
former U.S. Presidents, the Obama and Biden families
and members of the House, Senate, Supreme Court, Joint Chiefs of
Staff, diplomatic
corps and new cabinet.
Over 250,000 people have tickets to watch the ceremony from the
Capitol's west lawn. There are 30,000 tickets for seats below the
podium; the remainder of the tickets are for standing-room sections.
Barack Obama will become the 44th President — and
the first African-American
— to hold the highest office in America. VP-Elect
Joe Biden will also be sworn in. Both Obama and Biden families
will participate in the inauguration ceremonies.
