1st Intl Trip as First Lady
March 31-April 5, 2009
President Obama and First Lady Michelle made their
first international trip together, visiting the
United Kingdom (G-20 Summit
in London), France and
Germany (60th Anniversary of NATO Summit), and the Czech Republic. The British
Press dubbed
Michelle as "Mighty Michelle."
Fashionista
Icon
— London Outfits
Michelle Obama has an amazing sense
of style — it's no wonder that she's being compared
to Jackie
Kennedy.
Stepping off the plane in London,
Michelle wore a bright yellow Jason
Wu dress (one of her favorite
designers) with black evening coat and her favorite Azzedine
Alaia belt — Barrack Obama refers to it
as her "Star Trek" belt!
The next morning, for her Downing
Street visit, Michelle wore a sparkly beaded cardigan and
pale dotted-green pencil skirt
from
J. Crew (one of her favorite stores) — and
yes, the sweater sold out!
Later
in the day, Michelle arrived
at Buckingham Palace in a stunning black calf-length opera
coat by Jason Wu. At tea with the Queen, she wore
a chic black-and-white Isabel Toledo dress (yes,
her arms were covered) with a cropped black cardigan (by Azzedine
Alaia).
That evening at the Downing
Street dinner, Michelle looked fabulous — and
yes, she went sleeveless, showing off her world-famous toned
arms. She removed her cardigan from earlier in the day to reveal
her elegant black-and-white dress. She was a BIG HIT! Dinner
at No. 10 Downing Street was catered by famous TV chef Jamie
Oliver (known as the Naked Chef).

the World!
During the Reception at Buckingham

Because Royal

unprecedented behavior caused a sensation around the world!

Obama's
Gifts to the Queen
The Obamas gave the Queen an i-Pod filled with
her favorite show tunes and video footage and photographs of her
2007 trip to the
U.S.
They also presented her with a rare
autographed songbook by Rodgers
& Hammerstein. One of the Queen’s favorite
musicals is Rodgers and Hammerstein’s "Oklahoma."
The Queen gave the Obamas a
silver-framed photograph of herself and Prince Philip.

Michelle's Inaugural Ball Gown
and Jewels
Michelle's beautiful
Inaugural ball gown was
designed by Jason
Wu, an American fashion designer. The one-shouldered white
full-length silk chiffon gown has crepe lining and organza
fabric petals, and is embellished with Swarovski crystals.
Jewels adorning the First Lady were
designed by Loree
Rodkin — white gold and triple rose-cut diamond earrings
with diamond drops (60 carats),
white gold diamond bangles and a white
gold and black rhodium rose-cut diamond signet ring (with a 10-carat
center stone). That's some bling! Gown & Jewels on Display at the Smithsonian
" First Ladies of the Smithsonian" Exhibit Following tradition, the Inaugural ball gown (and all the Rodkin pieces
that
Michelle wore) will
be
donated
to
the
Museum of American History at the Smithsonian in Washington DC — to be
included in the ongoing "First
Ladies at the Smithsonian" exhibit.
