Jade Buddha Temple

Jade Buddha Temple
First built in 1882 to enshrine the Jade Buddha statues brought from Burma by Monk Hui Gen, the temple moved to its present site in 1918.

Today, hundreds of devotees make annual pilgrimages to this inspiring temple. The Jade Buddha Temple is located at 170 Anyuan Road in Shanghai.

The Jade Buddha Temple houses two exquisite Buddha statues — a White Burmese Jade reclining Buddha (photo top right) and a giant Jade Buddha statue seated cross-legged (sorry, no photos were allowed).

The temple also houses a complete set of Buddhist scripture — the Da Zhang Sutra — printed in the Qing Dynasty about 200 years ago.
