Yu Yuan Garden & Old Teahouse

Most Famous Classical Garden
in Shanghai
Yu Yuan is a famous 16th century Ming period
ancient garden located in the Chinese Quarter of the old
city, south of the Yangtze River. It was built in 1559 by a high
official to honor
his
mother. Today, it is the most famous classical garden in Shanghai.

Yu Yuan Garden
Quite deceptive in size, the garden gives one
the illusion of a larger area. It contains the essential "four
elements" of the Chinese garden — water, rock, buildings
and plants.
Yu Yuan Garden features tranquil lotus ponds,
bamboo trees, beautiful pavilions, terraces, chambers and towers,
winding paths, little bridges, rockeries and unusual stones.
