Shanghai's Bullet Train, Shanghai, China

World's First Commercial
Magnetic-Levitation Train

The world's first commercial "maglev" train — reaching a peak speed of 270 mph — transports passengers along a 20-mile track between downtown Shanghai and the city's ultra-modern Pudong International Airport in only 8 minutes.

This new bullet train is perfectly safe because it has no wheels and never touches the track, so it can't derail. It rides above its track suspended by powerful opposing magnets.
