Bluehenge
— Second Prehistoric Circle
Bluehenge is located about a mile away from Stonehenge. The prehistoric site was secretly unearthed by archeologists in the Summer of 2009. The "second stone circle" is considered to be one of the most important prehistoric finds in decades.

Dubbed "Bluehenge" because of the color of its 27 Welsh stones — none of the massive stones remain today. However, chips of the giant stones were found in the bottom of excavated holes of the smaller circle. The circle was found at the end of a path connecting Stonehenge to the River Avon, known as "The Avenue."

Like Stonehenge, Bluehenge was built over 5,000 years ago. It is now believed that the creators of Stonehenge built two circles — one with 56 stones at Stonehenge and another with 27 stones at Bluehenge, with the stones of the smaller circle eventually incorporated into the bigger one.

Nearby Stonehenge draws millions of visitors from around the world, especially during the Summer and Winter Solstices — the shortest and the longest days of the year — when the sun rises in perfect alignment to the circle of stones.
