International Travel — Europe
If you're passionate about Impressionist paintings,
you're going to love Musée d'Orsay — it's our favorite museum
in Paris. Apparently we're not alone — the popular museum welcomes over two million visitors a year.
Spring 2011 marked the museum's 25th anniversary.
Musée d'Orsay's Impressionist and Post-Impressionist galleries (located on the upper floor and median level Lille Gallery) feature masterpieces by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley, Edouard Manet, Henri Rousseau, Georges Seurat, Paul Signac, Berthe Morisot, Camille Pissarro, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent van Gogh, Edouard Vuillard, Edgar Degas, Pierre Bonnard, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin... and other preeminent artists.
Located on the Left Bank of the Seine, the museum opened in 1986 in the former Orsay railway station. Since then, the building has been transformed from an old rail
station into one of the world's most beautiful museums daylight streams through the
long arched glass roof (pictured above), giving it an open, spacious, modern
The term "Impressionists" was born in 1874 — and today, Impressionism is recognized as one of the most important art movements in the 19th century. And the Musée d'Orsay contains some of the world's finest
collections of 19th century art and a compilation of
fine sculptures. To keep ahead of the crowds, we suggest you start
at the museum's top level and work
your way down.

Museum Renovation in 2010
Note: Musée d'Orsay's Impressionist and Post-Impressionist galleries underwent renovation in 2010 — the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings were reinstalled in their permanent galleries in Spring 2011 for Musée d’Orsay's 25th Anniversary.
During 2010, the treasured collection was on loan for two consecutive exhibitions at San Francisco's de Young Museum in California. The de Young was the only museum in the world to host both of the Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay exhibitions, and that particular combination of paintings will never travel again.
