Pebble Beach Nature Trails
Pebble Beach is world-famous for it's scenic 17-Mile Drive. It
is also home to some of the most beautiful
nature trails in the country — Del Monte Forest offers visitors
more than 25 miles of riding and self-guided hiking trails. Samuel F.B. Morse Botanical Reserve
A variety of hiking trails can be found throughout the 84-acre
Samuel F.B. Morse Botanical Reserve and the adjoining Huckleberry
Hill Natural Reserve in Del Monte Forest.
Named after Samuel Finley Brown Morse,
grandnephew of the inventor of the telegraph, the scenic Reserve
is located on the east side of Congress
Road, between Bird Rock Road and
Chaparral
Road.

The Reserve entrance and Congress Road are located near the Samuel
F.B. Morse Gate to Pebble Beach, near the intersection with Bird
Rock Road. Note: When you pass through one of the Pebble Beach entry gates,
there's usually a $9.25 car entry fee. However, if you tell
the guard
that
you're
going
hiking
at one
of
the
Pebble Beach Nature
Reserves, the fee should be waived.

Pebble
Beach
Nature Trails Guide
Before heading out on your hike, be sure to pick up a "Pebble
Beach Nature Trails" Guide
at one of the Pebble
Beach Resorts (The Lodge
at Pebble Beach, Inn at Spanish Bay or Casa Palmero).
The Guide features a Pebble
Beach map with color-coded trails (purple is said to be the
most
scenic)
and
detailed trail descriptions.
Crawford Trail
The main trail through the Samuel F.B. Morse Botanical
Reserve is the scenic 1.7-mile Crawford Trail (marked with
purple-banded trail posts).
Crawford Trail begins
at the Congress Road
entrance and runs uphill — look
for the "S.F.B. Morse Botanical Reserve" sign
and bronze plaque reading "The Crawford Trail" honoring
naturalist Rudd Crawford.
The trail eventually connects
to other trails in the Huckleberry Hill Nature Reserve.
Guided Horseback Trail Rides
In addition to a variety of fun hiking trails,
Del Monte Forest can also be explored via horseback. Pebble
Beach Equestrian Center offers riding lessons and guided
horseback trail rides (including trail rides to the beach).
