"Impressionist Paris: City of Light"
Don't miss this fascinating exhibit — "Impressionist Paris: City of Light" now on display in San Francisco "City by the Bay." The exhibition runs from June 5 - September 26, 2010 at
the Legion of Honor in
S.F., concurrent with the "Birth of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay" at the de Young Museum.
The Impressionist exhibit highlights the work of Paul Gauguin, Pierre Auguste-Renoir, Georges Seurat, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Henri-Jacques-Edouard, James Tissot, Alphonse Mucha, Auguste Louis Lepere... and more!
The term "Impressionists" was born in 1874 — and today, Impressionism is recognized as one of the most important art movements in the 19th century.
"Impressionist Paris: City of Light" features 150 prints, drawings (including amazing charcoal etchings), photographs, paintings, lithographs, colorful posters, and illustrated books from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and several distinguished private collections.

It's a wonderful exhibit and there's a lot to see — allow plenty of time to get an up-close view of all the works, especially the incredible photographs and etchings.

Jean-Louis Forain's magnificent "Foyer of the Opéra" (oil painting pictured below) is absolutely mesmerizing!

We were thrilled to see the museum's glass pyramid skylight (pictured above) open to natural skylight for the first time in a decade — it really gives new meaning to the "City of Light" exhibit! Currently beneath the pyramid skylight is a garden with benches, reminiscent of Paris. Note: The skylight is only open temporarily during this special exhibit June-Sept 2010.

The "Impressionist Paris: City of Light" exhibit is divided into 10 sections:
